To take your CDL written tests and receive your CLP, you go to a Secretary of State facility. No appointment is needed — you can walk in. Below are the locations that serve the Chicago area.

What to Bring

Before You Go

  • Valid plastic Driver's License (must NOT expire within 12 months — no paper licenses)
  • ONE of the following: Original Birth Certificate, Valid US Passport, or Green Card
  • $50 fee — card, cash, or check accepted

Arrive at least 1 to 1.5 hours before closing. No appointment needed — walk-in only.
